São João Forest is lovingly nicknamed the “Polynesian Brazil.” And it’s easy to understand why. There are 12 km of paradisiacal beaches, delimited by dunes and palm trees and natural running swimming pools in the middle of the sea.

One of the main attractions is Garcia d’Ávila Castle. Considered the first large Portuguese building in Brazil, accentuated with the characteristics of medieval castles – the only example in Latin America. The castle was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1938.

For those who like to be in contact with nature, the Sapiranga Reserve and River Pojuca’s chutes are both good options. The journey can be walked, done by horseback or 4x4.

In São João Forest there is also the popular Forte Beach, with its first rate, quality touristic complex. It’s a great place to practice water sports and diving.
