BY AIR Two airports facilitate access to Rio. The Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (also known as Galeão), 12.5 miles (20 km) far from downtown, receives domestic and international flights. In turn, the Santos Dumont Airport, at the Guanabara Bay and near downtown, operates only domestic flights.
BY ROAD The city is accessed from Sao Paulo, by BR-116 (Presidente Dutra) or BR-101 (Rio-Santos) highways. From Belo Horizonte, the access is by BR-040. From Salvador, visitors can access Rio de Janeiro by the BR-101 or BR-324/BR-116/BR-393/BR-040 highways.
