A Brazilian course, the Terravista Golf Course (in Trancoso, in the state of Bahia), is the cover of the World’s most important publication of the tourism golf professionals: the 2007 directory of the IAGTO.
Presided by Peter Walton, who worked as a consultant for the Brazilian Golf Confederation in 2005 and 2006, showing strategies for a good development of the golf tourism industry in Brazil, the IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators) has nearly 1000 members among countries, resorts and, mostly, tourist operators specialized in the golf product.
CThe Terravista Golf Course, presided by businessman Michael Gail, is considered the most beautiful golf course in South America today, and, together with the courses in the Comandatuba Ocean Course, Costa do Sauipe Golf Links, and Praia do Forte Iberostar Golf Club, form, in the state of Bahia, the main golf tourist destination in our country.
With some holes in the cliffs, other on the border of the Atlantic Forest, the course of the Terravista Golf Course is a defiant and complete course.
In its editorial the IAGTO has made another mention to Brazil: “Spread as it is around an enormous country, Brazil’s fledgling golf tourism industry has been given the tools that it needs to present a coordinated golf product to IAGTO operators. The promotional video presented at the 2005 IAGTO Convention showed precisely how the destination can be linked together and sold by operators. Following guidance provided by IAGTO, we are also hopeful that the most appropriate courses will be built in the righ places to develop golf destinations within Brazil. We have recommended that each destination will have a minimum of three 18-hole courses each with 3 entire holes along the sea-front or similar selling points which will become the signature of one of the world’s most tropically exciting golf destinations”.
