BAHIA NOW HAS A NEW GOLF COURSE

The Espelho beach, one of the best-looking beaches in Brazil, now has a new attraction: the newest golf course in Bahia. It is the Outeiro Golfe Clube – a 9-hole course at Outeiro das Brisas, to be launched early in 2010. The course will be an exclusive complex of five million square meters located between Trancoso and Caraíva, southward the state of Bahia.

The design is by Álvaro Novaes, who designed the course of Foz do Iguaçu, state of Paraná, and some courses at the outskirts of Sao Paulo. The structure will have par 36 and 3,309 yards (or par 72 and 6,618 yards to two rounds, completing 18 holes). Fully integrated to the exuberant local vegetation, the course will have four tees per hole, enabling different challenges to golfers at different stages. Since it is nearby the sea, the course is highly influenced by the wind that softens the heat characteristic of the region.

The slightly sinuous fairways will be grassed with Bermuda Tifton 49. The greens will be grassed with Bermuda Tifton Dwarf. “The grass will enable very fast greens”, says Nelson Ferreira, the course manager, referring to a characteristic highly appreciated by the best golfers. The postcard of the course is the hole 7, a par 3 of 202 yards of the black tee (professional and scratch) that has a large lake in front of the Green.
