The first golf course of Ceará - the Ocean Golf Course - is operational since May. It is located in the tourism-enterprise complex Aquiraz Riviera, at the beach of Marambaia, Aquiraz, about 35km far from Fortaleza. When it is concluded, the Ocean Golf Course will occupy a 90ha area with 7,322 yards, and will be one of the biggest courses in the Northeast.

It was designed by the architect Donald Steel (responsible for enterprises like the Campo Real Golfe & Natureza and the Vila Sol, in Portugal) and attaches priority to nature, by preserving natural vegetation, reducing land movement and taking advantage of the terrain undulations to build a course to strategic golf.

The course lawn is the first one in Brazil using 100% the Seashore Conquista (Paspalum vaginatum) – coastal grass native from Brazil, adapted to the low demand of water, nutrition and agrochemical. The total investment of the golf course is R$ 9 million in worth.

The Aquiraz Riviera will be the biggest international-standard enterprise in Ceará, amounting to approximately $ 350 million. The total area of 285 ha is divided into Residential Area, Hotel Area and Environmental Protection Area, with 58 ha of local fauna and flora, additionally to 1,800 m in front of the sea. Sixty percent of the infrastructure works underway - like roads, wiring, water and basic sanitation – and have been concluded. The whole work is expected to be concluded early in 2011.
