EXPERTS IN MONUMENTS CONSERVATION HAVE A MEETING SCHEDULED TO JANUARY.

Many of the Brazilian buildings and historical objects that we admire today kept their beauty and integrity thanks to the meticulous work of the repair experts. This professional class is responsible for the conservation of most of the Brazilian History.

To put into practice the recommendations ensuing from the 1st Seminar on Quality in Monuments Conservation, Brasilia will host late in January a meeting with a workgroup made of experts from the regional bureaux of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) and of the Material Heritage and Inspection Department (Depam). The meeting is the first of a series of meetings scheduled to 2010, as recommended during the Seminar.

The 1st Seminar on Monuments Conservation Quality was held in August 2009, entailing important recommendations to improve the technical work quality in monuments preservation. The conference aimed at guiding the work of institutions regarding the cultural heritage conservation.

This meeting in Brazil is the first result of the seminar that was attended by about 300 experts from all corners of Brazil, almost half of which represented by Iphan professionals. The remainder participants were employees from municipal governments, states, public and private institutions working in the preservation field. Taking advantage of the massive presence of agents dealing with cultural heritage management, the debates have also approached broader issues like the procedures to recognize and value the heritage goods, and to define the working principles to the preservation bodies, notably the Iphan.
