Alta Floresta is located in the extreme north of the State of Mato Grosso. However, the ecosystem found there is quite different from the one found in the Pantanal Swamplands and the backwoods brush. This is where the Amazon begins. The scenery that results from the meeting of the tropical forest with the backwoods brush is stunningly beautiful. Alta Floresta is one of the main tourist points in the Amazon region. It has modern commerce and good hotel infrastructure, including a hotel in the jungle itself. The region is considered to be of tremendous potential for sport fishing. Untouched woodlands with secular trees resist the attacks of the lumber companies and ensure the food for the survival of monkeys, tapirs, deer and more than 400 species of birds, such as macaws, toucans and parrots.
