The city of Ilhabela is comprised of the Islands of São Sebastião, Búzios and Vitória; plus the isles of Cabras, Serraria, Castelhanos, Lagoon, Figueira and Anchovies.
São Sebastião, the most popular of the islands, is a well-liked tourist destination. It has clear and calm waters on the side facing the continent, deserted and paradisiacal beaches – protected by the Ilhabela State Park – on the open sea stretch. Water sports are a symbol of the location, which becomes the venue of the largest south American sailing competition every year.
Trails through preserved forest, beautiful waterfalls and excellent diving places, in addition to a sunset without equal, complement the list of attractions. Ilhabela once had well developed fishing and agriculture. Major part of the production was taken to Santos for commercialization. Currently, the city’s economy is dedicated to tourism.
