Mato Grosso do Sul State has been specially gifted by Nature. Great part of the Mato-grossense Marshland, the largest floodable area in the world, inhabited by a huge variety of fauna and flora; and the city of Bonito, around which there are real gigantic aquariums, with crystal waters and a great concentration of grottos and caves – completely preserved from human destruction. Both localities are responsible for the arrival of hundreds of national and foreign tourists to the State.
Due to its location, the difficulties to access to the great centers in the Country have forced the State to maintain strong connections with some neighboring countries, like Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. This close contact with the people of those nations has led the sul-mato-grossenses to absorb cultural traces of those neighboring regions, specially in the areas closer the borders, where the accent brings intense influence from the Castellano and still today musical rhythms such as guarania, typical from Paraguay, dominate.
Owner of a wealthy agropecuary cellar, the State also seeks the means to create an industrial park for primary production. The building of the Brazil-Bolivia gasduct is seen as a strategic action on this issue, as it could help overcome the lack of power there – main obstacle for the implementation of industries in the region. The State of Mato Grosso do Sul has also been developing cultivations of soy, wheat and cotton; and still is one of the main breeders of cattle, swines and birds in the Country.
The raining season is well defined: it falls from October to March and cease between April and September, when the climate is quite dry. On the rainy season, the marsh plain gets covered by waters; it´s when the boats are the main means of transport in the region, taking advantage of the rich hydroway system formed by Paraguai River and rivers sucn as Miranda, Jauru and Coxim.
Know the beauties of this State, and become another fan of our Brazil!
