Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is a privileged State in many aspects. To begin with, it has a varied geography that hides veritable paradises along the seashore as well as in its mountains. It is also one of the most industrialized cities in Brazil; creating a dispute among the foreign companies that yearn to implement their factories in the Brazilian State that holds the title of largest oil producer in the country.

The State of Rio de Janeiro is located in the Brazilian Southeast and occupies an area of 43,635 square kilometers. Its capital is tenderly called the “Marvelous City”. Once the federal capital, the city of Rio de Janeiro is the most famous destination in Brazil from overseas.

Among the countless attractions around the interior of the State there are beach resorts and mountains spas. The coastal cities receive the largest number of visitors on weekends and in the summer, which is between the months of December and March; all in search of beautiful beaches and good waves that the waters of this State offer in abundance.

Following the State’s coast, we pass through the delicious beaches of townships like Parati, Angra dos Reis, Niterói, Araruama, Arraial do Cabo, Cabo Frio, Búzios, Rio das Ostras and Macaé.

Heading into the interior of the State, it is also possible to find cozy farmhouses and small farms when we penetrate the Serra do Mar, such as in Petrópolis, Teresópolis and Nova Friburgo; and in the Itatiaia massif there is also Penedo, Itatiaia and Visconde de Mauá.

However, the city of Rio de Janeiro is the main tourist center for the State and for Brazil. Some of its most famous sites are the Sugar Loaf and Corcovado – from where Christ the Redeemer blesses the city - which have become symbols for the country all around the world. Other locations that call a lot of attention for tourists are the Forest Parks, such as the Pedra Branca and the Tijuca – the two largest urban green areas in the world – the Guanabara Bay islands, the churches, the sport complexes, the samba school courts, among many others.

But the highlights are definitely up to the State's beaches, which besides providing delicious fun, are also famous for the good wave formations, attracting countless surfers from all over the country and the world. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, the best waves are found on the Arpoador, Barra-Meio, Macumba-Pontal, Prainha and Grumari beaches.

The State of Rio de Janeiro is waiting for you not only with the city, but also with its mountains, beaches and wonderful waves. Come on, you’ll become a fan!
