Cumbuco

Cumbuco is an ample strip of sand and coconut trees located at nearly 35 km (21.75 mi.) from Fortaleza, in the metropolitan town of Caucaia. It is the first stop on the Costa do Sol Poente (Setting Sun Coast).   Formed by majestic dunes of white sand and coastal ponds, the Town of Cumbuco is today one of the most important centres of tourism in the state of Ceará, thanks to its proximity with the state capital and to the many options for leisure it offers.   Among the attractions found in Cumbuco, three large ponds are prominent: Banana Pond, the most sought one, ideal for the practice of motor water sports; Cauípe Pond, formed by the mouth of the homonymous river, whose course ends in the sea, which is the meeting point of those who lover off-road adventures, windsurfing, and kitesurfing; and the Parnamirim Pond, embedded amidst beautiful dunes. It is there that people practiced the “skibunda” in wooden boards, in which tourists sit onto the boards and go down the dunes towards a refreshing dive in the fresh waters of the pond.   For those looking for more excitement, the buggy ride on the white dunes is worth trying. For those who are not so into excitement, there are donkey and horse rides. For those who want to have a closer feeling of the sea in Cumbuco, there is the option of taking a raft ride along the coast.   Among the many beaches of the area, worth noticing are the Tabuba and Coqueiros beaches. The former is very flat and good for those who like to take long walks. The latter has small dunes and strong waves, the reason why it attracts many surfers.  Access to Cumbuco is gained by the CE-085 and CE-090 motorways, or by following the coastal avenues and motorways from Fortaleza. The town has the support of a good hotel network, and its cuisine is based on seafood and really makes the visitor’s mouth water.
