Caxias do Sul is a city marked by the strong presence of Italian immigrants. After arriving in Vale Trentino, they began planting vineyards and became a powerhouse in the production of wines and other grape derivatives. But it has not always been like this. In 1929, after the difficulties regarding planting and production of the beverage, some men created the first Winemaking Cooperative of Latin America: Primo Slomp.
In the building of the cooperative, still in activity and with more than 300 members, is the Uva e do Vinho Primo Slomp Museum, historical-themed site that tells the story of Italian immigration, of the cooperative, and of wine. The collection contains historic photographs and objects related to the culture of the grape and the wine production process, such as bottles, baskets, and barrels.
At the local, you can visit the winery, the centenarian grapevines, taste wine and, if you schedule, enjoy the colonial breakfast, a gastronomic experience with a table laden with food for you to gorge – and love it!
