Beaches

Cabo Frio has earned its name for its cold waters that can get to 15ºC or less. Filled with white sand and bright blue sea, the beaches in Cabo Frio invite you to fully enjoy sunny days. The most popular is Forte beach. 7,5 km long, it is the city’s central beach and its boardwalk is packed with benches and kiosks where you can sit down and have some ice cream or a cold drink to watch the sea and the people walking by. Across the street there are also great places to eat delicious snacks, like a serving of aioli shrimp or fried fish. On the left corner of the beach, there is a fortress considered a landmark by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan), Sao Mateus Fort. At the historical 16th century building, you can get an amazing view of the coastline.

Conchas beach is named after the shell-like shape of its sand strip. It is perfect for children and for those who like fishing and kayaking.

Framed by gigantic dunes of white sand, Dunas beach has a more agitated sea, with good waves for sports like surfing, kitesurfing or sailing.

Nightlife and shopping

The city also has a busy nightlife, especially from December to March. Besides night clubs and bars scattered throughout the city center, there is the popular Boulevard Canal, a boardwalk with plenty of restaurants and bars with live music performances, right across from Itajuru Canal.
