Florianopolis is divided into two parts: one is the Santa Catarina Island, and the other is located on the continent. They are connected by the beautiful Hercilio Luz Bridge, one of the city’s main postcards.

Best season

Unlike any other Brazilian beach town, in Floripa the temperature tends to drop a little during the winter, from June to August. If you do not wish to swim in a sea colder than usual, you should avoid this season. The summer ranges between December and February, but it is also the rainiest season.

Curiosities

The strong influence of the Portuguese and Azorean colonizers is evident in the architecture, cuisine, cultural and religious manifestations of Floripa, the nickname locals use to fondly refer to the city.

Nowadays, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina is an important city in Brazil, and according to 2013 data it has the third highest Municipal Human Development Index when compared to all Brazilian cities.

Around 45% of the city consists of natural reserves and there are over a hundred beaches, surrounded by hills covered with Atlantic Forest vegetation.

Attractions

Tourism is the region’s main economic activity, but it is also a well-developed technology center, which houses the biggest oyster farming business in Brazil.

Among the main historical attractions are the fort of Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa, next to the Jurere Beach, the Customs Building (Predio da Alfandega, dating back to 1875), the XV of November Square, the Victor Meirelles House Museum, one of the oldest constructions in the city, and the famous Public Market.

The Conceiçao Lake, 15 kilometers long, is one of the city’s most traditional places and is often sought by those who practice water sports, as well as by those after the traditional dish called Sequencia de Camarao, which means “shrimp sequence” and consists of an assortment of shrimp-based dishes served in a sequence.

Jurere Internacional is a neighborhood of luxurious mansions and fancy restaurants, and it appeals strongly to youngsters for it has one of the most lively nightlives in the country.

Floripa is a famous surfing spot in Brazil and hosts national and international championships. The beaches most sought out by surfers are Joaquina and Praia Mole, a synonym for surfing, beautiful people and partying, besides the Campeve and Brave beaches. Sailing, kitesurfing, free flight and offshore fishing are among the city’s main activities.

Do you want a beach to visit with the Family? Daniela Beach is the perfect choice, less crowded and with calmer waters.
