Among the islands that exist in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro State, Cataguas (or Cataguases) is the closest to the continent. To access it, you need to go by boat (your own or a rented one).
The biggest attraction in the island is the sea, with its calm and clear waters. Filled with pitangueiras, the Brazilian cherry trees with a typical Brazilian fruit, with reddish color and sweet flavor, the beach has very calm waters.
You can take very interesting boat rides. Schooners have slides and stop on the region’s islands. It's an opportunity to visit Gipoia Island and Ilha Grande (Great Island).
Cataguas is perfect for diving. True blue and green mixed tones in the water deserve to be appreciated. Besides, the sand is white, fine and soft, inviting you for a stroll. The vegetation around the island is very closed, making the landscape very special. You can also rent Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boards.
Beside Cataguas is the Peregino Island, also accessible by boat.
