Dedo de Deus Dedo de Deus
Its unique shape is a hallmark of Brazilian mountain climbing.
At an altitude of 1,692 meters, Dedo de Deus is a mountain peak whose shape resembles a hand pointing up towards the sky. It is one of several geological monuments of Serra dos Órgãos National Park, located between the cities of Petrópolis, Magé, Guapimirim and Teresópolis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The peak is located in Guapimirim territory and can be clearly seen from the Soberbo Observatory, located at BR-116, next to the Teresópolis border.
Brazilians José Teixeira Guimarães and the Américo de Oliveira brothers (Acácio, Alexandre, and Raul Carneiro) reached the top of the peak in 1912, establishing the initial landmark of Brazilian rock climbing.
At the time, their climb to the top was celebrated as a heroic feat, and some of the rock clamps they used can still be found on the mountain to this day. Dedo de Deus is also featured in the Rio de Janeiro coat of arms and flag.

A special term of visitation provided by the Park must be filled out.
During the colder months, bring a coat, preferably waterproof.
Remember to bring water, sunscreen and light foods.
Hire an experienced guide that will follow basic safety rules.

In Rio de Janeiro, take the BR-040 highway (Rodovia Washington Luiz) toward Teresópolis. The Park headquarters is located at the entrance of the city, with lots of road signs.
