Recife is a recognized center of culture and leisure services of northeastern Brazil. It is also the main theatrical, gastronomic, and medical hub of the region.

The city comprises several tourist attractions. From the harmonious contrast between the old monuments of Recife Antigo (the old town) and the modern buildings of the business center of the city; the various scenic spots with rivers, many bridges; several beaches, such as Boa Viagem are urbanized, beautiful, and inviting to bathe in natural pools; the artistic and popular expressions and the hospitality of its people make this city a real charm.

The capital of the state of Pernambuco has an efficient and receptive infrastructure, with numerous hotels and restaurants. Leisure options are quite varied, both for those who enjoy quiet and relaxing sites, and for those who prefer the bustling nightlife.


Recife is one of the most visited Brazilian cities during Carnival. Frevo music draws large crowds, involving the parade of carnival blocks and troças (orchestras playing frevo and other typical rhythms of the Brazilian carnival), which are mixed with other musical genres, such as maracatu, forró, and even electronic music. The main highlight is Galo da Madrugada, recognized as the largest carnival block in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.

But Recife is not limited to parties. The Parque das Esculturas, an open-air museum with about 90 works by the artist Francisco Brennand, was built in the year 2000 in celebration of 500 years since the discovery of Brazil. Nearby is the zero mile marker square, foundation point of the city and one of the most important sites of the capital of Pernambuco.

With more than 1.5 million inhabitants, the metropolitan region of Recife shines as an important economic cluster of great density and regional leadership, comprising the main industries of the state. The town Is home to the largest technology park in the country, known as Porto Digital.

Plane/ airport
Recife International Airport receives flights from Frankfurt, Buenos Aires, Miami, Lisbon, and Panama City.
Road (bus)
The Bus Station of Recife is the biggest bus station in Pernambuco and has more than 300 daily departures and arrivals of the various bus routes from inside and outside the state.
Personal or Rental Vehicles
Visitors can rent a car for touring Recife.

Bus
The Integrated Structural Transport System of Recife is a network composed of bus and subway lines. There are ten companies, which are responsible for the 185 lines that serve ten of the 14 municipalities of the metropolitan region of Recife.

The Recife subway system currently has 28 stations in operation, with a total length of about 50 km. Refer to the subway map.
