A tropical savanna filled with undergrowth vegetation, bush and twisted trees are the main characteristics of one of the largest Brazilian biomes, the Cerrado.

At first glance, the landscape might not fascinate you, but as you will explore its trails, waterfalls, national parks, fauna and flora, it will be impossible to resist the peculiar charm of Cerrado.

The heat is predominant in this ecosystem. Luckily, you can refresh yourself in the cold waters of hundreds of rivers, streamlets and waterfalls; the beautiful Santa Barbara waterfall in the village of Cavalcante, Goiás, stands out. It is definitely one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country, with white sand bottom, transparent waters in blue tones, and forms a large pool perfect for bathing.

Not only low trees with thick rinds form the natural landscape of Cerrado. Beautiful and exotic plants and flowers grow out to give color to dry and monochromatic fields, such as the beautiful caliandra (powder-puff plant), flamboyant and capim dourado (golden grass). In the Federal Capital, between June and middle of October, you can admire the crowns of ipês (poui trees) that grow out in yellow, purple, pink and white tones, giving lots of color to the city streets. A spectacle that deserves lots of pictures!

Cerrado is also rich in fruit and seeds that are used in delicious delicacies. You can taste the intense flavor of pequi (souari nuts) in dishes like galinhada (made with rice and pieces of chicken), drink an exotic beer made of baru nut or even eat a tasty dessert made of marolo (typical fruit of the region).

To get in perfect harmony with nature, nothing better than taking tours inside the vast Cerrado. In the State of Goiás, you can visit Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and Emas National Park , preserved as World Heritage by Unesco; in Minas Gerais, Grande Sertão Veredas or Serra da Canastra, Chapada da Diamantina in Bahia, Chapada dos Guimarães in Mato Grosso, or Jalapão National Park in Tocantins. Cerrado also covers the States Mato Grosso do Sul, Maranhão, Piauí, Rondônia, São Paulo and Federal District.

There are many options for you to get to know the best of the Brazilian Cerrado.
