The first edition of the Oktoberfest in Blumenau happened in 1984 and gathered about 100 thousand people in ten days. With the success, the following year attracted the interest of visitors from nearby cities and neighboring countries, but the consolidation of the event occurred in the third year, when it was necessary to build a pavilion in the German Village and a sports gymnasium was used to house the growing number of tourists.
The growth of the event ended up making the city the most sought after in the State of Santa Catarina during the month of October. However it is not just the beer that attracts visitors. At Oktoberfest, people breathe tradition, folklore, and the German culture.
Currently lasting 19 days, the festival has a lot of music, cuisine, and typical dances of the German people, receiving more than 500 thousand visitors every year. The city is always well-prepared to celebrate the event, and the activities are lovingly arranged by the residents.
