The Governor Magalhães Pinto Stadium, affectionately called Mineirão, was open in 1965, with a capacity for 62 thousand people. Because of the 2014 World Cup in Brasil, the stadium went through a profound structural reform and today can hold more than 64 thousand fans.

Considered the ultimate Minas Gerais soccer temple, the Stadium became a modern multipurpose arena, but its traditional front was preserved by the Heritage Council of Belo Horizonte.

The new roof of the Mineirão is made of a special partially translucent membrane to protect spectators from rain without harming the lawn. The grass, carefully chosen, got specialized treatment to ensure that the ball rolls better.

There are guided tours in the stadium, and one of the highlights is the Brazilian football Museum, which, since 2013, attracts visitors that are passionate about the sport.

The Mineirão will receive ten football matches in the Rio 2016 Games ™, including the match for the bronze.
