Located in the Prédio Rosa (Pink Building), a centennial building open together with the Praça da Liberdade, the Minas Gerais Museum has an important collection on mining and metallurgy, documenting two of the main economic activities of Minas Gerais.

The Museum’s proposal is to demonstrate the daily and economic importance of mining and its cultural and social implications. Mining and metallurgy are intertwined with the history and economy of the State itself (whose name derives exactly from the effervescent mining activity that was always present in the land), the Museum ends up being a happy celebration of the identity of its people.

The exuberant wealth of Minas Gerais’ soil is presented in 18 rooms in a playful and creative manner. There are 44 attractions demonstrating the universe of metals, and even the Emperor Pedro II and his wife and Empress Teresa Cristina come to life to present part of the collection.
