A place of incredible natural beauty, the Ponta de Humaitá leaves residents and visitors of Salvador mesmerized. Surrounded by the sea, Ponta de Humaitá is located in the Itapagipe Peninsula and is home to Nossa Senhora de Monte Serrat, the Convent and a Lighthouse. It is one of the most beautiful places in the Cidade Baixa (lower town).
The Church, built in the 17th century, still preserves its original features, with Portuguese tiles on the walls, a rosewood grating and an altar of almost 7 m plated with gold. The image of the Saint that names the Church is carved in wood.
The Monte Serrat Fort, built strategically on top of the Ponta between 1583 and 1742, is a fine military monument. In 1993, the Fort became the army’s property and went on to house the Museu da Armaria (Armory Museum), with firearms and military guns used in the past by the army.
The tour should extend until sunset, an unforgettable moment with a privileged view of the Baía de Todos os Santos.
