Ah, Brazil! Thousands of kilometers of coastline with a lush sea, beaches, islands and natural beauties that no traveler can complain of. And if you go further down sea level, you will find fascinating places for diving. Check it out:
1. Fernando de Noronha (Pernambuco) or just "Noronha", to the more intimate.
If there is a paradise in Brazil, this place is called Fernando de Noronha. A natural heritage of humanity, Noronha is a cluster with 21 islands, water temperature around 26° C and visibility of up to 50 meters deep. But that's not all. The sea with blue waters, houses 213 species of animals – including sharks, dolphins and turtles – 15 varieties of corals and even shipwrecks that look like underwater sanctuaries. One of them is 60 meters deep. Can you imagine yourself there? No wonder the experience of diving on this island is one of the best in the world.
2. Angra dos Reis (Rio de Janeiro) and its Costa Verde.
Imagine the following scenario: one of the most beautiful places of the Atlantic being the scene of battles between pirates, buccaneers and the Empire between the 16th and 19th centuries. But then you think: what does this have to do with diving? This place, dear traveler, has become one of the largest concentrations of shipwrecks in the world. We're talking about Ilha Grande (or Costa Verde, as it is also known), district of Angra dos Reis. Clean and crystalline water, pleasant temperature and a wide variety of marine flora and fauna – highlight to the starfish - it has numerous attractions for both amateur and advanced divers. Oh, and remember that the island also offers dives under rocks, cavities and crevices, perfect for those with an adventurous spirit.
Angra dos Reis also has at least 50 other diving points. It’s worth the visit.
3. Arraial do Cabo and Cabo Frio (Rio de Janeiro): it’s really cold!
Captain, cold water in sight! But the temperature of about 15° C is offset by the encounter with seahorses, turtles, rays and the fish that prefer these waters. A thicker diving suit solves issues with the cold temperature and allows you to enjoy a nice swim in the costa fluminense. Oh, and there are spots with little wind, ideal for beginners.
4. Laje de Santos (São Paulo) and the giants.
On the north side, the island is a beautiful haven of birds and their young. On the south side, the island has an abundant and diverse marine life, with special attention to the huge rays, arraias-jamanta,that visit the island during winter. Diver's Tip: people like to go to the island in the summer, but it's in the winter (from the 20the of June to the 22th of September) that the waters are cleaner and with less temperature differences. That's because the rains stop this time, making it the best place to dive.
5. Ilha do Arvoredo (Santa Catarina) and your beautiful neighbor
Close to the Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve, the variety of fauna and flora is very wide. There are several types of fish, turtles, stingrays and even octopuses! You will also find small wrecks and ancient war cannons. It's worth the dive! One of the exits to the island is made by Florianopolis.
6. Atol Das Rocas (Pernambuco) – without words!
Stop everything and look at this scenario:
Is it or is it not one of the most spectacular places you've ever seen? The Atol das Rocas has a rich fauna consisting of fish, lobsters, crabs, octopuses, rays, corals, turtles and sharks. On the islands, five species of birds nest there, in addition to the visits received by migratory birds. There are about 150 thousand birds inhabiting the place. Currently, due to the Brazilian legislation, in order to go down there or dive it is necessary to request authorization from IBAMA (Brazilian Environmental Institute).
