Located in Praça da Matriz, in the municipality of Prado, in the State of Bahia, the Nossa Senhora da Purificação Mother Church had its first temple made of taipa (foundation made of mud, wood and clay) in the 18th century. Its history is intertwined with the establishment of the first community of Prado, when Franciscan priests of the Province of Santa Cruz founded the village, in 1951.

Its physical structure is formed by the main chapel which contains two sacristies, a pyramid-shaped tower and an opening at the top of the tower where the bell is. Its interior is air-conditioned and on the outside, at the front, a sculpture of Christ in the center characterizes its entranceway.

The parish is subordinate to the Diocese of Teixeira de Freitas and its feast of the patron saint is celebrated all day on February 2nd, with a schedule which includes masses and novenas. The Parish consists of three local brotherhoods: Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Irmandade do Divino and Irmandade de São Benedito, the latter having black origins.
