The region of the Vale dos Vinhedos is a heritage of the Italian immigrants who came to Brazil in 1875 bringing with them their rich culture, architecture, cuisine, and wine traditions, observed in the small and in large properties throughout the city.
Vale dos Vinhedos is the first Brazilian wine producing region with Designation of Origin, and Bento Gonçalves is one of the few cities in the country to have a Technical course in Oenology, being Brazil’s largest producer of fine wines and grapes.
In Vale dos Vinhedos, you can take guided tours to small producers and learn all about the processes and taste the best wines and sparkling wines produced in the Serra Gaúcha. This is one of the most sought-after activities by visitors. You can also participate in manufacturing workshops and taste cheeses in some places. In the properties, you can find canteens, restaurants, and craft shops.
The valleys, canyons, rivers, and caves in the region are the perfect setting for those who love adventure. Take the opportunity to visit Salto Ventoso, a waterfall 52 m tall in the city of Farroupilha (24 km from Bento Gonçalves), ideal for practicing abseiling.
