Baía Formosa

Add to Favorites Remove from Favorites

Baía Formosa is an old fishing village in Rio Grande do Norte and is located 94 km away from Natal and 30 km away from Pipa, in Tibau do Sul. It is not by chance that the bay has the name “formosa” (“Baía Formosa” could mean “Charming Bay”). Its 26 km of semi-deserted beaches, 19 lagoons, three rivers, in addition to the Atlantic Forest reserve and mangroves have stunning beauty. A perfect place to relax in the shade of coconut trees, take delicious sea and lagoon dips, hike in the forest, and surf on the waves of the sea.

The largest preserved Atlantic Forest area of Rio Grande do Norte, the Mata Estrela, is located in Baía Formosa. There you can live fantastic experiences visiting seeing native species such as “Pau que ronca” (Snoring Wood) (a native plant that emits sounds) and the Amescla (a plant that has a sweet scent). The gameleiras, trees common in humid forests of Brazil, have impressive size. There are several lagoons on the site, including Araraquara, also known as Lagoa da Coca-Cola because of its dark water (though extremely clean) and cold temperature (resembling the popular beverage).

The Baía Formosa beach is the central beach of the city. Of calm waters and with an excellent tourist infrastructure, with restaurants, bars, and inns, it attracts visitors from all over the world, especially families in search of relaxation and peace.

From the center of the city, you can walk to the Praia do Pontal, a meeting point for surfers, and ride a buggy to Praia do Sagi, a totally deserted and suitable beach for bathing, even for children (properly accompanied of course!).

In Baía Formosa, you can often admire the beauty of dolphins swimming along its coast. At the end of the day, another gift: a fascinating sunset bringing colorful boats of the fishermen back to the shore. A perfect view to finish a great day of resting in the hot sands of northeastern Brazil.
