Parintins
Paritins, in the State of Amazonas, is one of the most appreciated destinations in the North region of the Country. There, the second biggest Brazilian folkloric feast (second to Carnaval only) happens, the traditional Paritins Festival.
Internationally known for celebrating the cultural diversity of Amazon, the event takes place on the last weekend of June and brings the population together in the Bumbódromo (stadium where the event is held) to watch the dispute between Boi Garantido and Caprichoso. Garantido, red in color, is represented by a heart, and Caprichoso, colored blue, by a star. The two face each other in the arena to tell, through songs, dances and costumes, stories of the region.
Parintins is part of an island in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest and has rich biodiversity, with river beaches that emerge during the period of low water level of the Amazon and Uaicurapá rivers. Vila Amazônica, a rural community that preserves houses with ancient architecture where there are signs of Japanese immigration, is noteworthy, as is the archaeological site with indigenous traces in Serra da Valéria.
A simple, hospitable town with welcoming and cheerful residents, Parintins has good infrastructure to receive visitors, great tour options and places to enjoy the regional cuisine, rich in fish such as pirarucu and tucunaré. In the Municipal Market, which still preserves its original characteristics from the 19th century, it is possible to taste delicacies such as tapioca with tucumã (fruit of an Amazonian palm tree) and papa de banana (tapioca and banana porridge).
In Calçadão do Porto, you may enjoy several bars and restaurants and taste bodó no tucupi (most popular local fish cooked in a broth extracted from cassava root) and tacacá (soup with tucupi, dried shrimp, cassava starch and jambu leaves).
To enjoy the best of the landscape, go to the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Cathedral, the highest point of Parintins, or to the Sagrado Coração de Jesus Church, where you may enjoy the Sunset while facing the Amazon River.

Plane/ airport
The nearest international airport is the Eduardo Gomes International Airport in Manaus. From there, there are daily flights with 1 hour duration to the regional airport of Paratinins.
Boat/ ferry
From the harbor of Manaus it is possible to take ferries and boats to the town. At the time of the Parintins Festival, there is a luxury boat-hotel that goes exclusively to the feast and serves as lodging on the location. -

To enter Brazil, it is not mandatory to be vaccinated against any type of illness. However, it is recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever (disease transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes) before the visit. If you have never taken the vaccine, you need to do so up to 10 days before the trip (this period is not necessary if you have already been vaccinated previously).
