At the western end of the state of Parana you will find Foz do Iguaçu, one of the most picturesque cities of the country, thanks to the majestic 275 waterfalls that form the Iguaçu Falls. Located on the border between Brazil and Argentina, in the Iguaçu National Park, the Falls attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world.

Listed as a Natural World Heritage Site by Unesco, the Park had its Falls selected as one of the New World’s Seven Natural Wonders, and it protects the endangered species of fauna and flora, such as the Brazilian Jaguar and araucaria. There you can visit the Garganta do Diabo, the biggest waterfall around, which is 90 meters high.

Another attraction of Foz (the affectionate nickname of Foz do Iguaçu) is the Birds Park, were you can enjoy an area of 17 ha of native forest and observe more than 800 species of birds (hyacinth macaws, ararajubas, black-fronted piping guan and others) that live in the area.

Visit also the world’s largest hydroelectric plant, the Itaipu Hydroelectric. Besides observing closely this gigantic engineering work, you can enjoy the activities offered for people from all ages, such as visiting a museum of pictures, historic components and interactive models, and also trails in the woods for observing plants and native animals. It is worth highlighting that Brazil is the leader in researches in biodiesel.

The Three Borders Landmark is also a popular attraction for people visiting the city. Not only Iguaçu and Parana Rivers meet there, but also three important South American countries border: Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. There is a commercial complex of handcraft shops and cafes, and you can also enjoy the beauty of the sunset at the observation deck.

From Foz you can visit Paraguay. The Friendship Bridge, built in 1965, is the access to the Ciudad del Este municipality of Paraguay.

Plane/ airport
Foz do Iguaçu International Airport receives international flights directly from Peru and several Brazilian cities.
Road (bus)
The Foz do Iguaçu Bus Terminal is located at the entrance of the city, and receives buses from many destinations in Brazil and from Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
Personal or Rental Vehicles
From Brazil, the access is by BR-277 road. From Paraguay, the access is by Rota 7 road. From Argentina, the access is by Ruta Nacional 12 road.

To visit Ciudad del Este, tourists from countries that not belong to MERCOSUR may present passport and visas (whenever required) at customs.

The best time to visit the Falls is from December to February, when the volume of water is higher and the trees are blossoming.

To enter Brazil, vaccinations of any kind are not mandatory. However, yellow fever (a disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes bites) vaccination is recommended prior to the visit to Foz do Iguaçu. If you are taking the vaccine for the first time, you must take it up to 10 days prior to the trip (this time period is not necessary you have already taken the vaccine).
