On the São Paulo State's coast, 73 km away from the capital Sao Paulo, is the Guaruja municipality. Known as the Perola do Atlantico (Atlantic Pearl), the city has beautiful beaches, modern infrastructure, historic buildings, cultural events and many touristic attractions.
Beaches
Guaruja attracts visitors during the summer and has diverse beaches, ranging from urbanized ones to those only accessible through incredible wild paths.
The Praia do Tombo (Tumble Beach) has an untamed sea and is perfect for surfing, being the stage of many national and international championships. The Praia da Enseada (Cove Beach), the biggest of the region, however, has more than 100 kiosks spread on the sand and is ideal for practicing water sports. The Praia de Pitangueiras (Pitangueiras Beach) has calmer waters, perfect for swimming.
The Praia de Pernambuco (Pernambuco Beach) is recommended for kayaking, sailing, bodyboarding and surfing; and, when the tide is high, it meets with the Praia do Mar Casado (Married Sea Beach), which has this name because of the encounter of the waters.

Ecotourism and rides
Guarujá also offers ecotourism activities, such as trekking, cycling, rappelling and paragliding. For the ones who prefer to walk and see gorgeous views, there are trails of several levels that take you to enchanting observatories and beaches.
Other interesting rides are the Rotas do Dragao (Dragon Routes). They are routes ranging from 3 to 9 hours of duration, on which you can visit historic ruins and fortresses, crafts fairs, popular shops and the biggest saltwater aquarium in South America, the Acqua Mundo.

Guaruja has accommodation options for every pocket, both downtown and near the sea. The city also has good shopping options, with fairs and malls, and a lively nightlife with clubs and bars.

The main highways to access Guarujá are the SP-160 (Immigrants Highway), for visitors arriving from São Paulo; and the BR-116 highway, for tourists arriving from Rio de Janeiro.

Coming from Santos, people can reach the city by ferry boat.
